Calculating Bi-Weekly Payroll and Overtime
The overtime calculations for bi-Weekly payroll periods aren't really much different from calculating overtime on a weekly basis. Overtime is still calculated for the workweek, where hours worked over 40 in the workweek would be paid at the overtime wage rate. Typically a bi-weekly payroll period would simply include payroll for two workweeks.
There is an exception for hospital workers where the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) permits overtime to be paid in excess of 8 hours in a workday or 80 hours in a 14 day period, whichever is greater.
