Round Time Cards to 6 Minutes

When adding up time cards, it is often alot easier to round time to the nearest 6 minutes (1/10th hour),

The chart below explains how to round time to the nearest 5 minutes. Spectrum TimeClock uses this same rounding method, as described in our knowledge base article at Spectrum TimeClock Rounding.

If the time to round is greater than or equal to the time in the left column, and it is less than or equal to the time in the middle column, then round the time to the value in the right column. Substitute the current hour in the time you are rounding for HH.

Generally, the same rounding rule applied to a time card must be applied to both the punch in and punch out times.

785.48(b) - Use of time clocks / Rounding practices

(b) "Rounding" practices. It has been found that in some industries, particularly where time clocks are used, there has been the practice for many years of recording the employees' starting time and stopping time to the nearest 5 minutes, or to the nearest one-tenth or quarter of an hour. Presumably, this arrangement averages out so that the employees are fully compensated for all the time they actually work. For enforcement purposes this practice of computing working time will be accepted, provided that it is used in such a manner that it will not result, over a period of time, in failure to compensate the employees properly for all the time they have actually worked.

Round Time Automatically

Spectrum TimeClock supports rounding time when employees punch in.
